LEAKEDENHANCED ×212The Collective does not normally publish anonymous material. We make an exception when the material is, in my professional judgement, of a quality that exceeds anything we have obtained ourselves in twenty years of standing in paddocks. I say this with no bitterness. Some of us hold cameras in the rain for two decades, and some of us drive past a hangar once with a phone.
Provenance
The image arrived via the guestbook at 3:52 am on Friday 3 July 2015 under the name “concerned_civvy” with the message: “taken last nite off the back road near the base. door was open bout 20 min. there was something in there. dont ask me how i got there. delete this after.” We have not deleted it. We have enlarged it, printed it, laminated it, and put it on the wall of the CWA hall beside the X-ray.
The submitter’s IP address resolved to a location Shane describes as “somewhere in Ipswich, or a servo”. This is consistent with Amberley. It is consistent with most of South East Queensland. I regard it as corroborating.
The image
A large industrial door, estimated at 20 to 30 metres wide from the proportions of what is either a bollard or a man, open by perhaps 2 metres. Through the gap, a pronounced green illumination of a kind not produced by any lighting I have encountered in fifty years of repairing televisions, and I have seen some greens.
Lower left of the gap, a silhouette. Quadrupedal. Heavy through the shoulder. The submitter says “about cow sized”. I have modelled it against a photograph of Beryl at the same scale and I will say only that the match is “not inconsistent”, because Warren was in the room and I did not want to raise his hopes, which I have now done in print, which I regret.
Measurements
Using the Collective’s standard methodology (the image on the CWA projector, the Dick Smith light meter held at a fixed distance of one metre, and the result divided by what I consider reasonable) the glow registers at 14 Faraday Units. For context:
| Source | Faraday Units |
|---|---|
| Beryl beam, 1994 (from tape) | 12 |
| Big Dam anniversary beam, 2014 | 11 |
| Mangan implant | 9 |
| The green hangar | 14 |
| Keith’s torch | 1 |
Fourteen is the highest reading the Collective has ever recorded. It is a lot of Faraday Units. I want to be measured about this, so I will simply say that whatever is in that hangar is brighter than the thing that took the cow.
Official response
The Collective wrote to the Department of Defence enclosing the photograph and requesting (a) confirmation of the hangar’s location, (b) its contents, and (c) whether any of its contents had an ear tag. The reply, which I reproduce in full, read: “The image appears to show a shed.”
I have the following observations on the official position that it is a shed.
- Sheds are not green inside.
- Sheds do not have 20-metre doors that open at 1:15 am.
- Sheds do not require a “back road” to approach.
- If it is a shed, what is the cow-sized thing, and if the answer is “a cow”, why is it in a shed on a defence base, and if the answer is “we have cows”, why has nobody said so before, and if the answer is “nobody asked”, then I am asking: how many cows, and where did you get them.
No further correspondence has been received. The Collective has logged this as a concession and also, separately, as a threat.
A word from management
Lyle has measured a photo of a shed with a light meter pointed at a projector and got a number he made up the unit for. I have asked him what a Faraday Unit is and he has told me it is "a unit of Faraday". The green is a sodium light through a fly screen. The cow-sized thing is a forklift. I know what a forklift looks like from behind. I married one. — Noreen
Assessment
I have been asked whether I believe Beryl is in the hangar. I am a scientist. I do not believe things. I measure them. I have measured the hangar at 14 Faraday Units and the silhouette at approximately cow sized, and I have measured Warren at approximately not sleeping since Friday.
To concerned_civvy, wherever you are: thank you. Do not go back. If you do go back, take a tripod, a longer lens, and a reading from one metre in front of the door, and send me the number. I need to know if it goes above fourteen. If it goes above fourteen we will need a new unit.
